6.05: Speaker: Campbell Scott, CEO of IGOpeople, Dublin.
Today consumers are increasingly using services such as social networks and discussion forums, to organise and to share opinion with friends. Businesses are often the topic of discussion, but the businesses themselves are struggling to take part in this discussion, as they are often not well received or in some cases may even be excluded. At the same time, traditional broadcast media is proving less effective for brands, particularly in addressing a younger audience, who can be less receptive to the marketing message. The Internet has become a more popular advertising media, as the rate of growth of spend on advertising outstrips other forms of media. However, advertising alone does not realise the full potential and “two-way” nature of the Internet – to to create a conversation with customers!
IGOpeople is a new service that allows brands and organisations to find, connect and do business with consumers.
The service is created using the best bits of social networks, directories, search and blogs.
It brings together individuals, groups and organisations in one place, so that they can find, connect and converse with the right people, to help get things done.
Businesses can use the service to;
• listen to consumers and collect ideas and feedback
• collect sales enquiries and make offers
• provide improved customer support
For consumers, IGOpeople offers the convenience of connecting with all the brands they deal with, from one place.

The Chamber’s help has been sought for this fascinating social history project in which you may have an interest (as an individual or as a company). The idea is to record as much social history as possible before it is lost.
The filmmakers are looking for at least one individual (preferably a grandmother, but all considered) from each of the 32 Counties who has an anecdotal story to tell about life in Ireland 50-60-70+ years ago. They are also looking for financial backers OR people/companies which can provide/underwrite in-kind assistance such as accommodation, transportation, supplies, etc., to the production company in return for PR opportunities.
If you know of a great storyteller who has lived through the many changes that have occurred in Ireland, perhaps you will determine whether she/he is interested in participating in the project.
Follow the link below to read more about this project, which starts filming on Monday next, 30th June. You can reply directly to Shane Dempsey at the contact numbers below.

Porter Novelli put together a really good concise guide on how to approach bloggers if you want to pitch to them or do business with them or send them/us something interesting. They contacted me and asked was there anything I’d like to add and there wasn’t, I think they’ve got it all covered. Anyone that’s in business should take a look at this because more and more you’ll probably be reaching out to bloggers.
Thanks Damien.
We are about to launch our Leitrim Business Network Podcast. Wikipedia definition of a Podcast.Interviews will take place this Friday at Leitrim County Enterprise Board.
The format of the interview will be very similar to conducting a radio interview but IT WILL NOT BE LIVE, i.e. we will be able to edit the interviews afterward.
Each interview will have a broadcast time of approx. 10 minutes. We will also try out a discussion type recording.
This is a great opportunity for you to introduce your business to both the business community and the general public. We would also like to hear and discuss your views on the current business market both locally and internationally, operating a business in Leitrim, opportunities and potential threats.
The podcast will be promoted here and also in the local press and media. Of course, as it is a podcast, it can also be heard around the world.
Friday’s podcast will be recorded with the kind assistance of Sleeping Warrior Productions.
If you are interested, please leave your details in the comment section below.

I have started to use LouderVoice to write reviews of ‘things’ and I am getting to grips with all the functionality Conor has added. So far it is working really well.
The Leitrim Business Network was established to exploit the power of business networking using LinkedIn. The network, in time, will also form a Leitrim business directory.
