Purchasers seem to be very cautious and the feeling among them is to ‘wait & see’.

In the manufacturing business we have seen a significant slow down.
I work for a service provider to medical/pharma multi nationals in ireland and they are all locking down the hatches.
Bringing work that was outsourced back in house.
Also contrary to belief that asia is not a real threat, we have seen significant interest in asia with many multinationals sourcing work from there.
The asian manufacturing community is learning fast and being backed by US and european business they have access to all the same resources and training that is available here.
There are still some quality issues but what has taken ireland 20 years to learn the asians are learning ten times as fast because of their work out put.
We do see a groing trend towards centres of excellence and R+D sites still developing and i believe that Ireland will become a global knowledge based service provider.
